Florida on iTunes U—Project Overview

The Florida Department of Education has signed an agreement with Apple Computer for access to services within the iTunes U portion of iTunes.
Stakeholders will be able to access digital content such as audio, video, text files, and podcasts from the Florida section of iTunes U.
Apple is providing the DOE with a free service to distribute content to educators, parents, administrators, and students, across the state of Florida.

The initial digital content will come from existing resources that are publicly accessible in various Web sites.
Pilot school districts include Escambia, Orange, Broward, Manatee, Miami-Dade, Putnam, Florida Virtual School, and Florida School for Deaf and Blind. The school districts vet content internally for copyright and quality before sending to state.
Current content partners are the Florida Humanities Council and Florida Memory Project.
Additional iTunes U content providers in Florida will be able to showcase their content within Florida on iTunes U (e.g., school districts, other state agencies).

Educators will be able to see a variety of lessons in classrooms from across the state.
Educators and administrators will be able to receive digital content for professional development, in the form of podcasts, videos, and audio files.
Parents will be provided information on current issues for education in Florida.
Students will have a place to showcase their work developed with digital tools.
Parental control feature in iTunes allows access to iTunes U only, not the iTunes Store.

Additional partnerships with state agencies are being established to use iTunes U as a communication delivery mechanism across the state.

FLDOE initiatives will be highlighted throughout the site, including Early Learning, Differentiated Accountability and Response to Intervention.
