Description: A genus of fishes found in the freshwater bodies of America and Eurasia. Most species have a long body and flat back, and taper toward the tail with more than ordinary abruptness. Cycloid scales cover the body. The mouth is large, with the lower jaw projecting, and there is a large and powerful array of teeth.
