Description: The common name of a class of food fishes belonging to the genus salmo. They are common to both salt fresh waters, and are particularly abundant in the North Atlantic. There are a number of well-known species, all of which are among the most important marketable fishes, but those of the North Atlantic are most widely distributed, ranging north of New york in North America and north of Spain in Europe.
