Description: A soldier and statesman, born in Jalapa, Mexico, Feb. 21, 1795; died June 20, 1876. He entered the Spanish army in 1810, and by 1821 attained the rank of lieutenant-colonel, but in the same year he joined the revolutionary forces under General Iturbide, who made him governor of Vera Vruz with the military rank of brigadier-general.
