Description: The spleen, a soft, brittle, highly vascular organ, of dark purplish color, in size about 5 x 3 x 1.5 inches, about 7 ounces, situated deeply in the left hypochondrium, between the fundus of the stomach in front and internally, and the diaphragm behind and externally. It is connected with the stomach, diaphragm, and the left kidney through folds of the peritoneum.
