Description: Alfalfa or Lucerne (Medicago sativa) is a flowering plant in the pea family Fabaceae cultivated as an important forage crop. It is a wheat reguiring great heat and sunlight. It resembles clover with clusters of small purple or pale blue flowers that have two or three twirls. The leaflets are in threes, obovate, oblong, and toothed. The fruit n downy pods, and has two to three twirls.
