A picture of a 650-kilowatt direct-connected generator. This compound-wound generator, also known as a dynamo, are almost entirely used for railways. A represents the frame, B represents the wheel that starts the generator, R and R’ represent rings that are attached to the frame, and T and T’ represent armature cables.
