A Chain Running through the Pit Sheave

There is a chain set into the groove of this vertical sheave. This is the pit sheave. The chain is connected to weights that rise and fall. Engine House No. 6 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site.
