Ostracism Voting Potsherds

Pottery fragments that were used in ostracism voting in athens through much of the fifth century B.C. Each voter scratched or painted the name of the man he thought most undesirable. The "candidate" with the greatest number of votes against him was obligated to leave Athens for ten years.
