Life Snapshots

Students create an Inspiration web using graphics or photographs that depict high and low points in their lives.

Objectives

  • Students will use knowledge and experience to tell about key events.
  • Students will use multimedia to tell about key events.
  • Students will think metaphorically to identify key events in their lives.

Procedure

  • Discuss with students the idea of symbols for events in life.
  • Have groups of students brainstorm life events using Inspiration's rapid fire tool. Working in groups helps students clarify their thinking.
  • After brainstorming, students work individually to identify key moments, people and places in their lives, placing events in chronological order.
  • Using Inspiration's symbol palette and other imported graphics, students select 10 to 12 important memories,
  • Students place symbols/events in chronological order and rank them graphically as high or low points.
  • Complete graphic map with brief captions.

Alternatives/Extensions

  • Students may scan pictures of life events and import them into the Inspiration symbol palette.
  • Have students research the meanings of many of the common symbols used today.
  • This assignment can serve as a springboard to other writing assignments. Students can chose one of the events and write a personal narrative.
