Must Love Animals!

Students will research an animal they are interested in and present their findings in a AppleWorks slideshow.

Objectives

  • Review science skill of animal classification.
  • Learn effective search techniques using the Internet.
  • Summarize information for purpose of retelling.
  • Present information visually in an AppleWorks slideshow.

Procedure

  • Discuss how scientists classify living things (habitat, diet, physical description).
  • Students select an animal that they have an interest in.
  • Students locate information on the Internet and organize this information using Inspiration software.
  • Teacher models steps to create an AppleWorks slide show, including adding text, graphics, and movies.
  • Teacher facilitates process, offering assistance when needed.

  • Inspiration software
  • Additional reference materials (optional)
  • AppleWorks presentation software

Alternatives/Extensions

  • After students present the slide show about their animal, have them indicate the range of their animal on a world map; students create a database of all the animals presented in slide shows, comparing specific data.
