Graphing Linear Equations and Slopes

Students will use Grapher software to graph linear equations and slopes.

Objectives

  • Students will explore the relationship between the slopes of perpendicular lines and parallel lines

Procedure

  • Students try to write the equations of two parallel lines and then two perpendicular lines.
  • Students graph the lines using the Grapher program to check their work, they then try to adjust their equations accordingly.
  • Students write a learning log entry about what changing the slope of the line will do to the appearance of the graph and about the relationship between slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines.

Sunshine State Standards

  • MA.912.G.1.4
  • LA.B.2.4.1

NETS Profiles for Technology Literate Students

  • Select and apply technology tools for research, information analysis, problem solving, and decision making in content learning.

Materials

  • Computers with graphic calculators and word processing
  • Internet access
