Using Reading Strategies to Teach the Immune System

Students create presentations about the immune system using Inspiration software.


  • The student will be able to demonstrate through Inspiration their knowledge of diseases throughout the world.
  • The student will be able to demonstrate their ability to produce a presentation in Inspiration by using Atomic Learning and sharing with other students their presentation.
  • The student will use main idea reading strategy to explore immune diseases throughout the world.


  • The students observed the presentation of main idea reading strategy by the teacher in class. The main idea was practiced together making an Inspiration document.
  • The students observed the teacher demonstrate the procedures as to how to make an Inspiration document on their own laptops.
  • The students were given the directions to find one to two diseases that were found in the following locations: Far East, Africa, Middle East, Europe, South America, Central America, North America, and United States. They were to also find out at least two details about the diseases.
  • The students were to set up their Inspiration from this information and be prepared to share in class.
  • The students were to use the world-wide web to locate their information and place in Inspiration.
  • Each student must use a wireless laptop to do their research and place in Inspiration.
  • Then the students will come back to the class and share their work. The focus being to use the main idea of Diseases and come up with supporting details in Inspiration.
