Objectives To use technology to research up to date information on the genocide in the Darfur region of Africa. To use our student created website and links on Dollars for Darfur. To use up to date information in emails to celebrities and politicians in an attempt to inform and influence others to impact global policies and send relief to the refugees from Darfur. To use information gained through research to influence people to attend a benefit concert and use monies donated to help the refugees from Darfur. To communicate with others interested in the global situation in Darfur and our efforts to impact this situation by joining a google group set up by our team of students. Procedure Pass out laptops to students. Have students log on to our student created website and links for the most up to date information on the genocide in Darfur. Give websites for emailing Ellen Degeneres, Oprah Winfrey, local congressman, local news media services(newspaper, television and radio), and the President. Send emails detailing the current situation in Darfur and our teams efforts to inform and impact others. Pass out instructions for joining our student created and moderated google group. Use student helpers for anyone needing assistance with the technology. Print information to be used to create brochures and fliers to inform others of the situation in the Darfur region of Africa. Design, develop, publish, and present products (e.g., Web pages, videotapes) using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom. Collaborate with peers, experts, and others using telecommunications and collaborative tools to investigate curriculum-related problems, issues, and information, and to develop solutions or products for audiences inside and outside the classroom. Select and use appropriate tools and technology resources to accomplish a variety of tasks and solve problems. Demonstrate an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity, and of practical applications to learning and problem solving. Research and evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness, and bias of electronic information sources concerning real-world problems. Use fliers to influence local merchants to donate items to be raffled off at the benefit concert Create video for commercial on schools morning announcements to inform student body of upcoming benefit concert and to solicit donations.
