Weather

Watch the weather each day of the school year and compare weather from each season using Appleworks Spreadsheet.

Objectives

  • Use the Weather Chart to input information about weather.
  • Students will predict which simple event is more likely, equally likely, or less likely to occur by watching the weather and keeping data to compare by seasons.
  • Students will speak clearly and at a volume audible in large or small group settings by discussing the graphs generated by the data collection.
  • Students will know that in order to learn, it is important to observe the same things often and compare them, by discovering seasonal weather patterns.

Procedure

  • Decide if the the weather is sunny, rainy, etc.
  • Add a day to the appropriate column of the spreadsheet keeping a running total through the year.
  • Use a freeware program on the computer that gives the temperature for the local area.

  • Instead of comparing seasons, you could compare different cities.
  • Students could compare cloud types from day to day.
