Testing Dissolved Oxygen

High school students teach elementary students about testing for dissolved oxygen.

Objectives

  • Students will understand the competitive, interdependent, cyclic nature of living things in the environment.
  • Students will use the scientific process and habitats of mind to solve problems.
  • Students will understand that science, technology and society are interwoven and interdependent.

Procedure

  • Students go on a field trip to a lake or pond.
  • Create a poster on testing for dissolved oxygen.
  • Students use probes to measure the amount of oxygen.
  • Students take pictures of the process.

  • Students write up their observations in a word processing program.
  • Students create their own experiment in the classroom or at school.
  • Students create a web page on their experience using pictures and written observations.
  • Students create a video from the pictures with text and audio.
