Our artist gives a view of the citizens of Harrisburg laboring on the fortifications of that city, showing that tardy but ineffective preparations made. Meanwhile the New York regiments all accustomed to military drill and evolution, some already tried by actual service, were hurrying to the scene of action; and on these men, till the War Department could assign regulars or volunteers, depended the safety of Pennsylvania."— Frank Leslie, 1896
