Description: The Hortulus Animae is one of a series of woodcuts that was created by German Renaissance artist Hans Baldung Grun between 1510 and1511. It depicts a soldier courting a woman by giving her a flower. A woodcut is made by carving a wooden block to the desired design, and then rolling ink over the carved block to print the design on paper.
