Chartres Cathedral, west portals, capital frieze between center and right portals, inner faces

Chartres Cathedral, west portals, capital frieze between center and right portals, inner faces

On the capital frieze, the Last Supper is highlighted on the broad capital between the central and right portals. The next scene depicts the arrest of Jesus and it includes the kiss of Judas and, to the left, Peter cutting the ear of Malchus, the high priest’s servant. The scenes are not in chronological order: the next one depicts Jesus’ Entry into Jerusalem and it is followed by the entombment of Jesus, with the laying of his corpse in a sarcophagus.
