Blolly (Pisonia discolor) Branches Form Hammock Canopy

The blolly is a large shrub or tree that can grow to 40 feet. The blolly is also know as "antwood" because often one of its multiple trunks provides shelter for nesting ants. The ant droppings fertilize the tree enabling it to grow faster in low nutrient soils.
