“It has a sharp, pointed nose, and a cunning expression, reminding one of a fox or raccoon. The body is eighteen inches long, its tail one foot two. The general color is blackish gray above, and yellowish brown on the lower parts of the sides. The tail is distinctly branded wih black and white.” —Goodrich, 1885
