Cefalù cathedral, mosaics, north wall of choir, Sts. Gregory, Augustine and Silvester
On the north wall of the choir at Cefalù the two lowest registers of mosaics depict saints of the western or Latin church. Bishops stand in the lowest register and there are deacon martyrs in the row above. The bishops include Pope Gregory the Great, St. Augustine, Pope Silvester and (not shown here) St. Dionysius. The mosaics of the presbytery were likely completed in the 1160s after the death of King Roger II (1154).Galleries:Italy 1160s, Mosaic, Mosaics, interior, Cefalù cathedral, Mosaics on apse and choir walls, St. Augustine, bishop of Hippo, doctor of the Latin church, St. Gregory the Great, pope, doctor of the Latin church, St. Silvester, pope, Tituli in mosaicsKeywords:bishops, pallium, tonsurePhoto Location: Cefalù, ItalyPhotographer: Dr. James D’EmilioDevice Make: NikonDevice Model: Nikon SUPER COOLSCAN 5000 EDOriginal Dimensions: 5318×3578Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates:Picture Number: 22644
