Poreč, Cathedral of Eufrasius, mosaic, north apse, Christ crowns Sts. Cosmas and Damian
The small lateral apses showed Christ crowning two saints: Sts. Cosmas and Damian in the north apse; and two bearded male saints, one identified as St. Severus, in the south apse. The long-haired Christ in the north apse contrasts with the short-haired Christ in the south apse. Traces of painted plaster – applied in an eighteenth-century restoration – are still visible on and around the framing arch of the apse (Terry and Maguire [2007], p. 8). The face of the saint on the right also bears evidence of extensive restoration in the 18th century (Terry and Maguire [2007], pp. 36-37). Cited sources: Terry, Ann and Henry Maguire.
