San Vicente de Ávila, Shrine of Sts. Vincent, Sabina and Cristeta, south side, torture of the saints

San Vicente de Ávila, Shrine of Sts. Vincent, Sabina and Cristeta, south side, torture of the saints

The five scenes on the south side of the shrine depict the torture and martyrdom of St. Vincent and his sisters, Sts. Sabina and Cristeta, and the miraculous events that, according to the saints’ legends, led to the building of their tombs. In the first scene, the three saints are stripped of their clothes. In the next, their bones are broken on contraptions that look like crosses, establishing a parallel with the Crucifixion of Jesus. D'Emilio photo archive no. b19800111u (13.06.21/JD)
