This shouldered tablet headstone employs a complicated artistic motif that includes a central urn that is flanked by angels, and a winged death's head. The death's head was a prominent motif for mortuary art, from the end of the 17th century, to the middle of the 18th century. This person was a captain of a company of soldiers, during King Philip's War, and later became a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts.Galleries:Copp's Hill Burying Ground, Grave MarkersKeywords:boston, cemetery, copp's hill burying ground, grave markers, headstones, massachusettsPhoto Location: Copp's Hill Burying Ground, Boston, MassachusettsPhotographer: Dr. Roy WinkelmanDate of Photo: 05/28/2011Device Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark IIOriginal Dimensions: 5616×3744Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 42°22'02.22"N 71°03'20.85"WPicture Number: 15587
