Surrounding Charlestown neighborhood, Bunker Hill Monument, Boston, Massachusetts. With construction beginning in 1925, the monument was originally slated to be the centerpiece of 15 acres purchased for a memorial. However, construction was frequently interrupted over the years as funds were drained. In order to complete the project, 10 of the surrounding acres were sold off in 1838 as house lots, preserving only the summit of Breed's Hill as the monument grounds.Galleries:Bunker Hill Monument, Views of Houses, ExteriorKeywords:boston, breed's hill, bunker hill, massachusetts, monument, neighborhood, revolutionary warPhoto Location: Boston, MassachusettsPhotographer: Dr. Roy WinkelmanDevice Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark IIOriginal Dimensions: 5616×3744Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 42º22'34.90"N 71º03'38.80"WPicture Number: 11933
