At the center of this panorama is the small, wooden ticket booth to the Castillo de San Marcos. Directly behind the booth is the drawbridge leading to the ravelin. To the left is the St. Augustine waterfront and the Bridge of Lions. To the immediate right is the San Agustin bastion with its small sentry box or garita. Further to the right is the San Carlos bastion with its larger watchtower. The dry land between the sea wall and the fort is the water battery. Here you will find the hot shot furnace, which was used for heating cannonballs targeted at wooden ships.Galleries:Castillo de San Marcos, St. Augustine, St. JohnsKeywords:CASA, Matanzas River, NPS, San Marcos, St. Augustine, bastion, bridge, castillo, fort, hot shot furnace, palm trees, panorama, ravelin, river, sea wallPhoto Location: Castillo de San Marcos, St. Augustine, FLPhotographer: Dr. Roy WinkelmanDate of Photo: 12/18/2013Device Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark IIExposure Time: 0.01F Number: 16Original Dimensions: 27624×5194Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 29°53′52″N 81°18′41″WPicture Number: 25527
