City of Tampa seal sculpted above the entrance to the Tampa City Hall building. The emblem depicts the ship known as the "Mascotte" owned by Henry B. Plant, who had a great influence on the development of Tampa with his transportation systems. Built in 1885, the Mascotte served as transportation from Tampa to the Caribbean. It was even used to carry supplies and troops to Cuba during the Spanish-American War.
