This area was landscaped by Frederic Bartlett with plants able to survive in this dry, sandy environment due to their water-conserving and storing ability. This is the basic principle of XERISCAPE, or water conservation through creative land scaping. The plants are able to survive and grow without special attention or supplemental irrigation which saves not only water but fertilizer and horticultural materials. The coral walkway and flanking obelisks are made from keystone coral. The obelist, a form that dates back to ancient Egypt, is one of several motifs used to decorate Bonnet House.Galleries:Bonnet House, Broward, Deserts, Fort LauderdaleKeywords:aloe, bonnet house, desert, ft lauderdale, landscaping, palm, path, south florida, xeriscapePhoto Location: Fort Lauderdale, FLPhotographer: Dr. Roy WinkelmanDate of Photo: 05/25/2008Device Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon PowerShot A560Exposure Time: 1/640F Number: 26/10Original Dimensions: 3072×2304Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 26°8'6.03"N 80°6'17.20"WPicture Number: 111
