Fort Matanzas as Seen from the Dock

Fort Matanzas as Seen from the Dock

Visitors to Fort Matanzas approach the historic structure by boat. This panoramic photo shows the north side of the fort, Rattlesnake Island, dock, and National Park Service boat that has brought passengers from the visitor center to the fort. The thirty foot tall structure is constructed of coquina stone. One canon is visible on the gundeck. The window at gundeck level opens into the soldier's quarters. The window immediately above opens into the officer's quarters. Part of a chimney and a flagpole are visible on the observation deck.
