Headworks at the Northeast Water Reclamation Plant

Headworks at the Northeast Water Reclamation Plant

The first step in treating sewage is screening and grit removal. Screening removes plastics, cans, and other large objects that have entered the sewage system. Grit removal removes sand, stones, broken glass, and other types of grit that could damage equipment in the plant. Debris is collected in the yellow containers at the bottom of the headworks.
