This wide ranging tropical species occurs from Brazil to Central Florida. Named for the bristly leaf texture and downy fruits this species does not usually survive in the understory of the mature hammocks. Its survival in the areea depends on disturbances like lightning and storm winds that open gaps in the canopy.Galleries:Misc Trees, Monroe, WetlandsKeywords:Botanical, FL, Key Largo, Keys, hammock, island, leaf, leaves, plantsPhoto Location: Key Largo, FloridaPhotographer: Gordon WorleyDate of Photo: 11/10/2010Device Make: NIKON CORPORATIONDevice Model: NIKON D50Exposure Time: 0.25F Number: 13Original Dimensions: 2524×1678Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 25°10'33.71"N 80°22'10.21"WPicture Number: 21863
