This photograph of a sinkhole was taken at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. This sinkhole occurred due to limestone bedrock being dissolved by carbonic acid over a period of time. The carbonic acid percolated through the soil via rainfall; as rain falls, it picks up atmospheric carbon dioxide in which a reaction occurs that produces a weak solution of carbonic acid.Galleries:Alachua, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, SinkholesKeywords:Alachua county, FL, Florida, Gainesville, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, change in elevation, sinkhole, small depressionPhoto Location: Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, Gainesville, FLPhotographer: Dr. Roy WinkelmanDate of Photo: 07/24/2013Device Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark IIExposure Time: 0.025F Number: 4Original Dimensions: 5616×3744Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 29°36'43.89"N 82°24'32.13"WPicture Number: 25029
