The Gish-Hill House and An Associated Historic Marker
This is the Gish-Hill House, at 714 Fillmore Street. This brick veneered house was constructed in 1922, on the site of a Civil War-era structure known as “Rose Cottage.” The style is considered to be Craftsman, although the Italianate influences are noted. The fluted columns of the partial-width portico provide a Neoclassical flair, although the curvilinear arch and flat wings of the portico's roof present a visual break from that style.
The earlier cottage had served as the headquarters of General Albert Sidney Johnston. There is now an historic marker in front of the building.Galleries:Corinth, Craftsman, Views of Houses, ExteriorKeywords:brick veneer, corinth, craftsman, curvilinear, fluted columns, gish-hill house, italianate, mississippi, neoclassical, partial-width portico, rose cottagePhoto Location: Corinth, MississippiPhotographer: Dr. Roy WinkelmanDate of Photo: 10/31/2011Device Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark IIExposure Time: 0.008F Number: 20Original Dimensions: 5044×3436Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 34°56'03.32"N 88°31'20.17"WPicture Number: 20693
