A minbar (also spelt mimbar or mimber) is a pulpit in the mosque where the imam (leader of prayer) stands to deliver sermons (khutbah) or in the Hussainia where the speaker sits and lectures the congregation. The minbar is located to the right of the mihrab, the niche that indicates the direction of prayer (towards Mecca). The minbar is also a symbol of authority. The minbar is usually shaped like a small tower with a pointed roof and stairs leading up to it.Galleries:AgraKeywords:Minbar, leader, mosque, prayer, pulpit, sermonPhoto Location: Agra, IndiaPhotographer: Allison PapkeDate of Photo: 01/01/2011Device Make: SONYDevice Model: NEX-3Original Dimensions: 3056×4592Picture Orientation: PortraitGPS Coordinates: 27°11'N 78°EPicture Number: 11334
