A view of the limestone-brick Yulee Sugar Mill in Homosassa. The fertile, moist soil and mild climate of Florida's coastal areas were ideal for growing sugar cane, and many plantations went into operation in the early nineteenth century. Due to the enormous amout of waste produced in the processing of the cane, it couldn't be economically shipped to a central mill for processing, necessitating each plantation to have its own equipment for processing the harvest and cooking it into sugar.Galleries:Agricultural Equipment, Citrus, Machinery, Yulee Sugar MillKeywords:agriculture, chimney, florida state park, gears, homosassa, kettle, machinery, mill, plantation, state park, sugar mill, wheel, yulee, yulee sugar millPhoto Location: Yulee Sugar Mill, Homosassa, FloridaPhotographer: Chad CullenDate of Photo: 03/03/2011Device Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon EOS 5DExposure Time: 1/250F Number: 8/1Original Dimensions: 4368×2912Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 28°47'0.41"N 82°36'22.04"WPicture Number: 7668
