A Panoramic View of the Quarai Mission and the Ruins of the Attached Convento

Pictured is a panoramic view of the ruins at the Pueblo of Quarai. Straight ahead one can see the best preserved of the Spanish churches that were local to the area, El Misión Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Cuarac. Completed c.1629, Quarai would serve as the epicenter of the Spanish Inquisition in New Mexico until 1674, when droughts and repeated Apache attacks caused the abandonment of the mission. To the right, one can see the extensive convento ruins, assembled of red sandstone and adobe. To the left a wild thicket of undergrowth lines the winding trail.
