Use a digital camera to help students discover the cardinal directions.
Objectives
Students will know and recognize cardinal directions.
Procedure
Go outside with the students and take pictures of landmarks (buildings, trees, playground equipment, etc) on the north, south, east and west sides of the school grounds.
Download the pictures into a computer.
Print the pictures.
Have the students cut out the pictures and glue them onto a file folder in their respective places and label them. They can use a compass to return to the landmark to see in which direction it lies.
The teacher should also print a large picture of each landmark, hang them in their respective places in the classroom, and label them with large letters.
