Checkbook

Use a checkbook system in conjunction with your classroom behavior system to develop life skills.

Objectives

  • Students will understand that making effective decisions involves considering the costs and the benefits associated with alternative choices.
  • Students will understand the basic concept of credit.

Procedure

  • Teach students to use a check register and how to write a check by modeling the activity the first few times.
  • Provide students with an initial deposit.
  • Charge students for rent, electricity, trips to the bathroom or water fountain.
  • Connect with your current behavior system to earn money and/or charge money.
  • Keep a running check register on a spreadsheet for each child to determine accuracy.
