Habitat Movies

Students produce iMovies to showcase their habitat research.

Objectives

  • Students will read for information to use in performing a task.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge that there are many different plants and animals living in different kinds of environments.
  • Students will apply their knowledge of a habitat and its animals to create a skit and an iMovie.
  • Students will produce a piece of writing that describes an animal and its habitat.

Procedure

  • Have students select a habitat to study and group students according to their selections.
  • First, the students will create a mural of their habitat on large butcher paper based on their research of the habitat. They should include the appropriate ground cover, plants and animals.
  • Next, the students choose one animal from their habitat to focus on. Topics of study might include, prey, predators, and unique characteristics of the animal. With this information, they will write a story from the perspective of the animal.
  • Then, in their groups, students will use their knowledge of their habitat and their animals to create a skit.
  • Film the movies and edit using iMovie.
