Description: Barley is a cereal grain derived from the annual grass Hordeum vulgare, a common barley. It serves as a major animal feed crop, with smaller amounts used for malting and in health food, as well as the making of the alcoholic beverages beer. This is a winter species and is shorter. The seed is more slender than wheat with a firmer and rougher covering of husk or chaff.
