A Model of a Packet Boat

This is a model of a packet boat. This is one type of barge that might have used the Mainline Canal. The barge would have been partially disassembled, and loaded on flatbed railroad cars, for transport along the Allegheny Portage Railroad. This visitor center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site.
