A Model of the “Lou Ann”

This model shows a canal barge that has been broken into three sections, to facilitate transport via railroad. The Allegheny Portage Railroad was used to connect two segments of the Mainline Canal. The barges were reassembled before being returned to the Mainline Canal. This visitor center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site.
