“In illustration of the savageness of this race, the author of the “Jardin des Plantes” tells us of a Golden carabus, C. auratus, that was seen to pursue and attack a cock-chafer, and, having drawn out its bowels, proceed leisurelt to devour them. This species inhabits gardens, and is popularly called the Gardener.” — Goodrich, 1859
