San Paio de Diomondi, west portal, inner left capitals
The capitals of the eight-column west portal of San Paio de Diomondi are symmetrically placed in matching pairs on the corresponding columns on each side. In addition, the capitals are designed symmetrically with paired animals. The only exception is the inner left capital where the animal on the outer side has the face of a bearded man. Might this figure, placed prominently alongside the doorway, refer to the artist or a patron?
