A Plate to Commemorate the Marquis de Lafayette's Visit to the United States in 1824
This blue, transfer-printed plate is painted with a scene depicting the "Landing of Gen. Lafayette." The Marquis de Lafayette served as a Major General, in the American Revolution. He visited the United States in 1824, touring most of the country. This particular scene shows his ship arriving at Castle Garden, New York, on 16 August 1824. Economy was the third settlement started by the Harmonist Society, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Properties. The site is located in Ambridge, Pennsylvania.
