Anhinga

Anhinga

A male anhinga drying its wings. Lacking the protective oils of other waterbirds, this behavior is necessary to enable them to become light enough for flight. By allowing its wings to become waterlogged and its body therefore less buoyant, the anhinga is able to dive and stay underwater longer than other birds.
