Brazilian Porcupine

A Brazilian porcupine crouching on a branch at the Smithsonian Natural Museum of American History. Barbed spines protect this nocturnal rodent from predators. After dark, it forages for fruit and leaves, climbing small vines and branches with its gripping feet and tail.
