The Attachment of the Old Fire Pumper's Handles to the Pumping Mechanism
This is a close-up of the wooden pump handles on the 1826 fire pumper. The separate pieces of wood are held together by metal bands, chains, and pins. There is a red, vertical metal bar, inside the wooden housing, that is moved by raising and lowering the pump handles. Economy was the third settlement started by the Harmonist Society, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Properties. The site is located in Ambridge, Pennsylvania.
