The object in the rafters, with the pliant sides, is a bellows. The black metal machinery next to the forge has a crank, which can be turned. When the crank is turned, air moves through the black metal pipes. The pipe that connects to the forge is a tuyere. This system is used to keep the coals hot, so that metal can be worked in the forge.
